Join the Economic Boycott this Friday, 2/28/25
A movement started by a guy in Queens is gaining lots and lots of momentum!
Maybe you’re fed up buying eggs for $7, $8 or $9. Or paying astronomical prices for any number of other much-needed products. Well, here’s your chance to protest. A new consumer advocacy group is sending a wave of protest across the nation!
It’s simple. Show gigantic retailers the power that consumers have when they band together. Do it this February 28th. Begin at midnight the night before and just don’t touch your credit card for 24 hours.
That means you may need to plan ahead. Buy gas and food on Thursday, 2/27, or if you absolutely need to buy something, just use cash on Friday.
And please spread the word.
According to CBS News, the organizer of The Economic Blackout is a group calling itself Peoples Union USA. The effort was spearheaded by a man named John Schwarz, a dad from Queens who calls himself “thecalledjai” on Instagram and other social media.
The protest has certainly gained momentum on social media, but now mainstream news organizations like Forbes, Newsweek and others are reporting on it too.
According to Forbes, the Peoples Union USA “claims not to be a protest or political party, but a ‘movement of people unionizing’ to expose corruption in the economic system and resist efforts by businesses, government and the ‘wealthy elite’ to exploit workers, suppress wages and ‘keep the majority of us in a constant state of struggle.’”So now you know, please consider joining in. And do pass the word.
Other boycott dates are coming up in March:
Consumers have power. We know this. One of the first consumer activists to demonstrate this power was Ralph Nader, who in 1974 kindly gave my politically-active husband his first job, organizing student Public Interest Research Groups, or PIRGS. PIRGS, which are still on campuses 50 years later, have a long history of working on important consumer and environmental issues.
“I’m old,” my husband joked when I read to him what I just wrote about PIRGS.
Yes, well, we are certainly old-er. But hey, maybe we old-timers can still help fire up the masses.
We can try!
ps Thank you, Georgia O’Keeffe, for the use of your extraordinary wave painting, one in a series of Colored Waves. You have always been one of my heroines.
I'm trying to turn a snow day into a devastating tsunami of resistive contempt.
Starting February the 28th. start the boycott full bore for more than a day, a week, ten days, or longer.
Be selective in what you purchase.
Stop all purchasing except for the necessities… shop local grocery and farmers markets.
If Necessary, use Google or other stores that support DEI and other social programs.
This is the way, the only way. Long term pain by denying them the loyalty they need from you to sustain their viability. They have shown absolutely no loyalty to you or this country. I remember growing up and going to stores that were happy to see you, now, you are treated with benign neglect, contempt and indifference.
